Green Energy

With the soaring cost of energy bills it’s time to look at what we can do to reduce our bills.  One of the best ways to do this is to compare tariffs from the various energy companies.   However, what can those of us who want to reduce our carbon footprint do?

Most energy companies now have a greener energy tariff that takes into account reducing your carbon footprint and also using renewable energy sources.  On the whole these are more expensive than your average tariff but long term are better for the environment.

There are also some totally eco-friendly energy providers cropping up that provide energy from 100% renewable sources and are also researching innovative ways of providing energy without harming the environment.

BEST GREEN ENERGY TARIFFS

  • British Gas

British Gas offer two green energy packages.  The first is Zero Carbon which leaves no carbon footprint by offsetting 100% of the carbon emissions you use.  They also match the electricity you use with electricity from renewable sources.

The second is Future Energy.  This supplies electricity from renewable energy sources to the national grid.

For more information go to the British Gas website.

  • nPower

The greenest tariff from npower is the National Trust Green Energy tariff.  Npower will match 100% of the electricity you use with a supply of energy back into the electricity grid.  They will also contribute £30 to the National Trust Green Energy Fund that supports investment into renewable energy.

For more information check out the details here.

  • EON

EON have one green tariff know as Go Green.  Customers are offered green source electricity as well as a carbon offset scheme.  Again a 100% match of the electricity you use against electricity from renewable sources is made.  The carbon offset is for gas only.

The added benefit here is that EON offer a reward scheme with Tesco so you get Clubcard points when you pay your bill.
